Range Statement
The range statement relates to the unit of competency as a whole. It allows for different work environments and situations that may affect performance. Add any essential operating conditions that may be present with training and assessment depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts.Where reference is made to industry codes of practice and/or Australian/international standards, the latest version must be used.ContextThis competency applies to manufacture of composite products using vacuum bagging equipment within the plastics and rubber industries. It includes all moulds, pumps and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) if fitted and all relevant ancillary equipment integral to the composites forming process.ProceduresAll operations are performed in accordance with procedures.Procedures include all relevant workplace procedures, work instructions, temporary instructions and relevant industry and government codes and standards. Tools and equipmentThis competency includes use of equipment and tools such as:moulds, closures and fittingsvacuum pumps and fittings such as couplings, hoses, breathers, bleederscontroller, such as PLC if fittedrelevant personal protective equipment (PPE)hand tools used in the production processmaterial loading equipment used for loading of raw materials.HazardsTypical hazards include:hazardous vapours and materialsfibres, airborne and handledhumidity, air temperatures, radiant heat, hot mouldsstationary and moving machinery, parts and componentsmanual handling hazards.Problems'Anticipate and solve problems' means resolve a wide range of routine and non-routine problems, using product and process knowledge to develop solutions to problems which do not have a known solution / a solution recorded in the procedures.Typical routine faults include:heatloss of vacuumequipment - adjustments/set-upequipment - maintenance requirements incorrect quantity of materialscontaminated materials.Typical process and product problems may include:resin, over or undersupplied to mouldrelease agents performancecontaminationtemperature variations, affecting resin cure-ratevacuum variation/leakage in vacuum system/bagblemishesmissing detailwarped, worn or damaged mould parts or fittingsvariations in materials and/or contamination of materialsprocessing problems.Appropriate action for problems outside of area of responsibility may be reporting to an appropriate person.Appropriate action for solving problems within area of responsibility includes asking questions and seeking assistance from appropriate persons/sources.VariablesKey variables to be monitored include:cycle timeoutput ratesurface finish and conditionproduct weightproduct integrity and general conformance to specification/sample.
